Operation Manager

TITLE:                       OPERATIONS MANAGER                                                 FLSA:  Salaried, exempt











Plans and directs personnel and operational activities relating to event setups and custodial services.  Conference/Convention standards setup of the exhibit halls and meeting rooms and all aspects of setup functions in the performance hall to ensure the facility is setup and maintained in accordance for optimum client satisfaction.





·        Plans, directs and coordinates setup activities consistent with facility wide standards for all conventions, trade shows, exhibits, meetings, sporting, entertainment, theatrical and other events as needed.

·        Directs and motivates operations and staffing in a manner conducive to full job performance and high morale.

·        Meet with appropriate setup staff to outline work that must be done for the day and week.

·        Interview potential vendors and current vendors to evaluate new products and current products to stay informed on the effectiveness of new systems and operations.

·        Prepare work schedules and assures adequate coverage for department and specific events.  Also prepare floor plans, reports and labor summaries on a daily and weekly basis.

·        Develops and conducts in-service training programs promoting cross-training; demonstrates setup and safety methods and procedures to operations and staffing employees.  Coordinates with the Director of Facilities on training for forklifts, scissor lifts and other facility wide safety programs.

·        Maintains event memo records and other paperwork for the operations department.

·        Manages the supervisory staff in the convention center and the employees and part time laborers as needed.

·        Coordinates inter-departmental efforts to meet client needs on a continual basis.

·        Ensures that all equipment is maintained correctly.

·        Coordinates all event activities, working in conjunction with event coordinators and all other support departments.

·        Has knowledge of sense of timing as to what activities should take place within a time frame to accomplish necessary tasks to ensure a successful event.

·        Has knowledge of the materials, methods and practices used in operations.

·        Has knowledge of the operation, use and care of equipment and supplies.

·        Has knowledge of local, state and federal laws and guidelines relating to safety in the workplace and maintaining of all safety related documentation i.e. MSDS sheets and other related documentation for the department.

·        Evaluates work procedures and facility wide operations and plans and develops improvements in consultation with the Director of Facilities.

·        Communicates clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.  Has knowledge of Microsoft office applications.

·        Interviewing, hiring and training employees; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with the Director of Facilities and Human Resources and addressing problems and complaints and resolving problems.

·        Performs all other duties as assigned.








Position requires long, irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.  Exposure to adverse conditions including inclement weather, noise, fumes, cold, etc.





·        Requires the ability to climb steps.

·        Requires extensive amounts of walking throughout the facility.

·        Requires the ability to visually inspect.

·        Requires the ability to physically push equipment and operate a variety of building service equipment.

·        Requires the ability to do frequent lifting in excess of 50 pounds.





·        Prior supervisory experience a must.

·        2-3 years facility experience, event management experience or related experience preferred.

·        Degree in public facility management or related field preferred.

·        Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills necessary.
