Enhancements at DeVos Hall

Enhancements are on the way at SMG-managed DeVos Performance Hall

Grand Rapids — SMG has changes on the way at DeVos Performance Hall with fan security and enjoyment in mind. Beginning immediately, the venue will institute an enhanced security policy requiring all show-goers to pass through metal detectors at all entry points. Bag searches will also be performed, and all bags must measure 14” x 14” x 6” or smaller in order to be brought inside. The enhanced security policy will be in effect for all events and is consistent with Van Andel Arena®’s security policy, which is also managed by SMG.

SMG also began working on improvements to the restrooms in July that will increase the number of stalls for both men and women. The men’s room in the inner lobby will be converted to a women’s restroom while a new men’s room is being added on the north side of the outer lobby. Construction is expected to be completed in October.

Outside of the venue, planters are being installed on Monroe Avenue, as well as on the Grand River side of DeVos Place®, to provide exterior beautification and support for the City of Grand Rapids’ tree canopy goals. The planters will also provide additional safety for pedestrians as well as seating. The planter installation should be completed by mid-September.

“We are confident that these enhancements will provide a secure and comfortable environment for patrons, employees, and vendors,” said SMG Regional General Manager Richard MacKeigan. “We are excited for the completion of the restrooms and planters, and we are grateful for the community’s continued support and cooperation.”
